Adobe has shipped a new version of After Effects featuring Multi-Frame Rendering and an updated version of Mocha AE (the free version of Mocha built right into After Effects)! The good news for Boris FX customers is that we collaborated closely with Adobe and the current shipping versions of Sapphire 2021.5, Continuum 2021.5, and Mocha Pro 2022 support Multi-Frame Rendering. Our tests show significant render speed increases across all three products — and the optimization will only get better in upcoming 2022 releases.

This all changed when I got my first NLE and from those early Speed Razor days to now I’ve got pretty reasonable on editing software and especially the fascinating plugins that we all need to get the latest effects. I now have a favourite NLE for commercials and high production value work (Premiere Pro) as well as a favourite for speedy cut’n’shuts (that would be Avid) as well as a choice if I just want to have a laugh and see how badly wrong they got it.

This is a major version update that includes compatibility with mocha Pro 4 and mocha Plus 4 project files. Thanks to all the customers who said hello at the NAB tradeshow in Las Vegas. We really appreciate talking to directly with artists and editors to learn how you use our products. At NAB, Imagineer previewed a technology demo of what’s coming in Mocha v4. While we are still 6-8 weeks away from release, the software performance was very stable and customer feedback to new features including support for Adobe Premiere and native stereo 3D was great.

Started in 1983 with a couple of offline VHS machines in the back of a Citroen 2CV, Silverglade has come a long way to be the modern post-production facility it is today. With a full HD-only workflow – offline and online - Silverglade utilises Avid Everywhere, a Baselight grading suite with Dolby screen, and Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) for the cream on top. There are two dubbing theatres with ProTools and voice-over booth for audio.

The following excerpts were published in a mocha Pro product review in Post Magazine’s June 2013 issue. “I’ve always have done a fair amount of tracking as part of my job as a finishing artist. However, there have been shots that I haven’t been able to nail, even with the tracker in Autodesk Smoke. With the release of Adobe Creative Cloud, many Boris FX customers have been wondering about compatibility with their existing Boris FX software. All current Boris FX products have been fully tested and confirmed as being compatible with the new Adobe CC product line. I meant to post about SXSW and the rest of our news two weeks ago, but I was completely overwhelmed by the enormity of SXSW and the recovery from it. SXSW Me, showing off mocha’s planar tracking at SXSW South by Southwest was an experience. We had a booth for a week there, and it was insanity. Austin is a beautiful and wild city.

The new Boris Soundbite v2.1 includes the ability to import Final Cut Pro X projects. In FCP X, you can export any event via XML, and the XML can then be imported into Soundbite. Each event is treated as a FCP X project within Soundbite and all media from the FCP X event is indexed and searchable. This is a completely sane and reasonable drive. Hi guys! I flew out to Atlanta this week to come to the Atlanta Cutters meeting tonight and visit with some local studios and spread the mocha knowledge. I will be here through Thanksgiving and then I am flitting back across the country… in a car. It should be an adventure. The last time I drove across the country was ten years ago.

Introduction We’ve had a few requests to make companion written tutorials alongside our video tutorials. So for those who prefer reading step-by-step instructions, rather than examples where you have to hit pause all the time, this is for you. When doing camera solves in Mocha v3, the most common workflow is to track planar areas in your shot that are not moving, so you can define how the camera is moving relative to the non-moving objects in the shot.

A little tutorial to show how you can use the remove module for adding and taking away. When you have the laborious task of making skin ridiculously perfect, the remove tool helps by being able to take a 1 or 2 frames of photoshop clean-up and apply it to the rest of your shot. The illumination tool helps keep the original lighting intact as well. This means you can remove acne and eyebrows, or fix makeup, tattoos and continuity mistakes without having to reshoot, which is very handy when you’ve got more important things to do, like exploding a zombie.

mocha tutorial: tracking rotation with angle parmeter on Vimeo. This tutorial covers an often overlooked set of Search Area parameters in the track tab: Angle and Zoom. All Search Area parameters are telling mocha to look within a range of zero to the set value. So, just like we set a maximum search value for the Horizontal and Vertical areas of the footage (Automatic by default), we can also tell mocha to look to see if the area has rotated up to a certain range of rotation, or zoomed in/out quickly up to a certain percentage of scale.

The last day of February was a turning point for the Visual effects industry in South India. In a bleak amiable atmosphere was the lecture hall in Hotel Green park when technicians from most of the high ranked Post production companies stepped in. The presentation which awaited was first of its kind in India. It was the Launch of mocha Pro in the country by Imagnieer Systems and Sniper Systems followed by a professional seminar on its usage.

Product Review: Imagineer Systems’ mocha Pro Mocha Pro is the latest version of Imagineer Systems planar tracking software. It combines the functionality of previously available products into one single package, making it easier since there is no longer the need to worry about different applications for different purposes. As I said, Mocha Pro is a planar tracking software. Basically, it helps users rotoscope different features of any footage, and provides a set of spline masks that can be used for different purposes.

For those that haven’t seen the software update pop up yet, we’ve released mocha 2.0.2, and it comes with some handy improvements: Files with large amounts of layers load much faster. In some cases 25 times faster. Performance improvements for reading and tracking QuickTime files on 64-bit Windows. Keyframe by spline/point re-implemented. There’s other little tweaks and fixes too. Earlier this year, we spoke with Jake Morrison, VFX supervisor with GOAT Visual Effects. Here is an interesting story from Studio Daily about Imagineer customer CIS Vancouver. They relied heavily on mocha‘s tracking and roto features for the feature film, “Invictus”. Enjoy! -Ross From Hancock’s point of view, creating digital make-up not only helped the speed of the shoot but was a boon to editorial. “Make-up ties you down to a certain order of shots,” he says. “In this case, they could re-order shots and play with things in editing and create continuity afterwards.

David has many years of experience in vsiual effects and is an industry veteran. This should be a very worthwhile course and I am sure that even experienced mocha users will learn a thing or two.

Keith over at our forumshad an interesting request the other day: He wanted to know how to convert a panning shot of Standard Definition footage to widescreen by using mokey to create a clean plate for the edges. We had a ponder and tried it out, and here’s what we came up with: Take your footage and comp it into a widescreen frame in your compositing package so you end up with black edges to the left and right Render this sequence out and create a project with it inside mokey In one layer create two closed rectangular splines that cover the exact height and width of the black edges.

The new theme is: “Milk and Cookies” About 5 Second Projects Every couple of weeks, greyscalegorilla posts up a new theme that entrants have to base 5 seconds of animation/motion graphics around. Winners get picked and sometimes prizes are awarded, but the main goal is just to have fun and make some cool pieces for your demo reel.
